Training FAQs
I lost my certificate card. What should I do?
In most cases, a certificate card can only be replaced by directly contacting the certifying body of the course.
For St. John Ambulance First Aid courses: You must call the St John Ambulance Edmonton branch at: 1-800-665-7114
For H2S Alive: You must call Energy Safety Canada at 1-800-667-5557
For Energy Safety Canada (previously known as Enform and OSSA) courses: You must call Energy Safety Canada at 1-800-667-5557
For Global Ground Disturbance: Please call Global Safety at 1-855-321-3211
For all other courses:
Please call us at 780-485-3585 or e-mail us at info@safetycoordination.com and we will get a replacement card to you as soon as possible. You will need to provide government-issued photo ID to pick it up. An administration fee of $25 will apply.
Do I have to stay for the whole course?
Yes. Full attendance is mandatory for your certificate.
Students who are more than 20 minutes late will be refused entry into the course, and must reschedule for a later date.
Students who miss more than 20 minutes of instructional time of the course will not be issued a certificate of completion, and will not be eligible for a refund.
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early, and wait until break times to deal with any texts, calls, and e-mails.
What time does my course start?
Our courses start at 8 a.m. every day.
Be sure to arrive 15 minutes early to sign in, get your seat and some coffee, and square away any outstanding payment if needed.
I need to reschedule or cancel my registration in a course. What should I do?
E-mail our registration coordinator at registration@safetycoordination.com or call 780-485-3585 and we will take care of that for you.
Just make sure to contact us at least a full 24 hours ahead, so we can free that spot up for another student and so you don’t end up with the $65 late-cancellation fee.
What do I have to bring along to the course?
You will require government-issued photo ID for all courses.
For any training courses involving powered mobile machinery, such as Elevated Work Platform, Forklift, etc, we recommend you bring your own set of steel-toed CSA-approved boots. Please note that portions of our powered mobile machinery courses are held outdoors, so please ensure you bring appropriate clothing for the weather (work gloves, coat, etc.).
Are there any prerequisites for courses?
Some courses do have prerequisites. You can see the prerequisites in each course description. Some common course prerequisites:
ESC Elevated Work Platform training requires you to have a valid ESC Fall Protection certification.
Standard First Aid Recertification requires that your Standard First Aid certificate must be valid on the day of the course. If it is expired, you must complete a full two-day Standard First Aid course instead.
In general, you will also need to be proficient in spoken and written English to do the course. Some of our certifying partners do not permit translators or verbal testing in their courses, or have other restrictions that may impact those with English as a Second Language.
When does my certificate expire?
All the courses taught at SCS are valid for 3 years. Check your certificate card to make sure you recertify ahead of your expiry date so you don’t end up unable to work on certain worksites.
What happens for student cancellations and no-shows?
Please be sure to cancel and reschedule your registration at least 24 hours before the start of the course. If you don’t, or if you just fail to show up, you will need to pay a late cancellation/no-show fee. That fee is $65 for weekday courses and the full course cost for weekend courses.
We always let you know this policy along with your registration confirmation. We do stick to this policy, as we were holding that seat just for you and so we couldn’t sell it to another student.
But we’d like you to avoid that cost, so please just give our registration coordinator a call at least 24 hours ahead at 780-485-3585 or e-mail registration@safetycoordination.com to cancel or reschedule.
I have some trouble taking written tests and most courses require them. What should I do?
At SCS, we understand that a small minority of people have test-related anxiety at a level that creates problems for them in doing well on written tests even if they understand the information. If you are part of this group, please speak to your instructor before class starts for options and assistance.
I failed a course I took. What do I do now?
Failures happen. Some information is quite challenging, and some days people might just be tired or distracted.
If you failed a course, just contact our registration coordinator at 780-485-3585 or by e-mail at registration@safetycoordination.com and we can help you take another crack at it.
We’ll even give you a 10% discount for the redo!
Can I arrange to get one of your courses delivered to my employees at my worksite instead of having them come to your building?
No problem. We do these all the time. All our courses can be done off site at your location.
Contact us and we will organize an off-site course with you and work out all the details for date, time, facility, etc. E-mail our registration coordinator at registration@safetycoordination.com or call 780-485-3585 and we’ll get you all set up.
I would like to pay by P.O. (purchase order) as a company and get set up as an approved company that pays by cheque or direct deposit. How do I get set up for that?
Just contact us and ask! We’ll send you some simple paperwork to complete for preauthorized credit with our company.
Contact our accounts payable department at 780-485-3585 or e-mail info@safetycoordination.com and we’ll get that admin work done.
I’d like a whole batch of PIN codes for e-learning for my staff, instead of buying them one by one. How do I get those?
Just contact our registration coordinator with the name of the course and the number of PINs you require and we’ll handle that admin work for you.
Contact us at 780-485-3585 or e-mail info@safetycoordination.com and we’ll take care of it.
I had some trouble or questions with your online booking system. Who can I talk to?
Technology is amazing but even the best systems get the odd bug. Just contact our registration coordinator at 780-485-3585 or e-mail registration@safetycoordination.com to let us know the trouble.
We’ll make it right for you.
