Summary
This is a classroom-based half-day SCS-certified course in fire extinguisher training. It is available from SCS when requested to suit your schedule. We are able to provide this as one-on-one training if you need it, so there is no minimum number of enrollments for this course and scheduling is flexible.
On the job or off, if a fire breaks out it can endanger lives and property, and spread quickly from a small point of ignition into a lethal blaze. If you need to know how to use a fire extinguisher safely and effectively for your job or other roles, this course will give you the background information on fires and the practical extinguisher skills you need. The training includes hands-on experience, as you will be required to extinguish a Class B fire with an extinguisher.
Course Content
This fire extinguisher training is meant for anyone who needs to use a fire extinguisher safely and effectively, whether in industry or the general public. Participants will be certified to the National Fire Protection Association Standard: NFPA 10 – Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers.
The course topics include the following:
- The combustion process
- Basic firefighting concepts
- How to recognize the various classes of fires: A, B, C, D and K fires
- How to select the appropriate fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire
- Labelling and extinguisher components and limitations
- Inspection and maintenance practices
- Firefighting decision criteria
- Practical fire-pan / fire simulator exercise
Prerequisites and PPE
You don’t need to complete any other courses or have any prior experience to enroll in this course. You also don’t need to bring along any personal protective equipment (PPE).
