Summary

This is a classroom-based 1-day Energy Safety Canada (formerly Enform) course in detection and control of flammable substances. It is available from SCS when requested to suit your schedule, with a minimum of 5 student enrollments required. SCS partners with Energy Safety Canada to make sure we can bring you this training, the gold standard in Alberta for workers in upstream oil and gas, which is also recognized in other industries and sectors.

If you have to work in environments where flammable substances are present, you need to know their hazards, precautionary measures, and detection practices. This ESC-certified course will help you understand how to apply appropriate controls to eliminate or mitigate the hazards associated with flammable substances. You will learn how to safely monitor, assess hazards and control flammable substances through theory, demonstrations, and hands-on practice.

Course Content

This course is right for you if you may need to undertake monitoring of potentially hazardous atmospheres in the workplace, particularly while working in the oil and gas industry.

Course topics include the following:

  • Introduction to flammable substances
  • Principles of flammable gas/vapour
  • Care and preparation of combustible gas monitors
  • Sampling strategies and interpretation of monitor readings
  • Control methods for high combustible gas readings

 

Please note:
  • Basic literacy and understanding in the language the course is being taught is required
  • Students must be on time and present for all course content instruction.
  • Course duration: 8  Hours (may continue beyond 4:30 pm)
  • Lunch breaks and coffee breaks are provided – Please bring a lunch

Prerequisites and PPE

You don’t need to complete any other courses or have any prior experience to enroll in this course. You also don’t need to bring along any personal protective equipment (PPE).
